Trial Adoption
High quality, eligibly funded clinical trials are adopted by the ScotMCN. Adoption is required to gain access to network resources in Scotland and in the DOH funded NIHR-CRN.
ScotMCN can provide nursing, pharmacy and laboratory support for adopted studies depending on local or national availability and requirements. ScotMCN can also provide guidance and support in protocol development, costing of trials, preparation of age appropriate patient information sheets, pharmacy issues and regulatory requirements.
Study adoption also permits access to the NIHR CRN training portfolio for staff working on ScotMCN adopted studies. Details of training courses can be found on the NIHR-CRN website hwww.ukcrn.org.uk/index/training/booking-courses.html.
As ScotMCN is required by the Chief Scientist Office to provide quarterly recruitment figures on all ScotMCN adopted studies, one of the conditions of adoption is that the co-ordinating centre receives accrual data on a bi-monthly basis.
A trial adoption committee comprising the network director, manager, pharmacist and lead paediatric research nurses meets on demand to review clinical trial protocols of studies applying for network adoption and to review recruitment progress on existing trials.
If you would like to have your trial considerd for adoption by the ScotMCN please complete the ScotMCN Trial adoption form.
Once a trial/study has been adopted by SMCN it will be notified to the equivalent body in the MCRN (England) and with whom reciprocal arrangements for adoption have been agreed.
